Body of missing miner found in Barama River
The body of miner was fished out of the Barama River at an area known as Ianna Backdam, North West District at
around 08.30 hrs yesterday.
The victim had been missing since Friday and is believed to have fallen overboard.
According to reports, the victim, along with the captain and two others, were heading to the interior to work.
However, on Friday, the boat captain reportedly left the men on the boat, while he went to rest in a camp, with the intention of heading into the backdam the following day.
Kaieteur News understands that the young man and his friends imbibed alcohol and he began to behave in an erratic manner. He reportedly even attempted to start the boat engine.
When the other men woke on Saturday, he was nowhere in sight.
The captain, who returned, and others launched a search.
Yesterday, his body was found in the Barama River.
