Plans are in place for a successful visit by the Legendary Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira to the Ancient County of Berbice. The Legendary International Cricket Commentator and outstanding Sport Administrator would be hosted by the Berbice Cricket Board during the period Thursday 19th to Sunday 22nd July, 2018. The visit is being specially organized by Berbice Cricket Board President Hilbert Foster and the Angela Haniff led Special Events Committee.
The visit is being sponsored by Mr. Imran Mc Sood Amjad, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAGLICO, while another overseas based Guyanese, Mr. Vernon Thorne is co-sponsoring. The main objectives of the historic visit are to get Club Officials to understand their roles as administrators, to strengthen Club Structures, to inspire young cricketers and to establish a working relationship between the Berbice Cricket Board and all Clubs across the Ancient County. Perreira would arrive at the Eugene Correia International Airport, Ogle, on the 19th July, at 14.00 hours before leaving to meet with junior cricketers from the West Berbice area at the Blairmont Cricket Ground at 16.30 hours. Later in the evening, he is scheduled to have dinner and discussion with the Berbice Cricket Board President and some of his executives.
On Friday 20th July, he would visit the historic Port Mourant Cricket Ground before paying courtesy calls on the Regional Chairman and Mayors. At 13.00 hours, he would be involved in the presentation ceremony of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club 28th Annual Cricket Academy before visiting the Albion Cricket Club, where he would speak to dozens of members. Later in the evening, he would be the Guest of Honour at a Cocktail Reception. Saturday 21st July, 2018, would be a hectic day with meetings scheduled with Berbice Cricket Board Executives, Umpires Association, while from 13.00 hours to 16.00 hours he would spearhead the hosting of an Administrative Seminar with all Clubs in Berbice at the St. Francis Training Centre.
On Sunday 22nd, Mr. Perreira would officially declare open the Berbice Cricket Board 2018 Cricket Academy at 09.00 hours before hosting a special educational session. A total of seventy Berbice Under-15 to Under-19 players would be part of the Academy which would be sponsored by overseas based Guyanese Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh. Both the Berbice Cricket Board and the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS during the visit would honour Perreira for his outstanding contribution to Cricket in Guyana and the West Indies.
The Berbice Cricket Board would like to express gratitude to Mr. Imran McSood Amjad of NAGLICO and Mr. Vernon Thorne for their sponsorship of the visit. The Berbice Cricket Board would also like to remind all Cricket Clubs in Berbice that it is compulsory for them to send two representatives to the Seminar on Saturday 21st July. Failure to do so will result in them being unable to play in any Berbice Cricket Board Tournament.
