A three-vehicle smash-up on the Friendship, East Bank Demerara public road has left two drivers and a passenger in critical condition.
The accident which occurred around 18:00 hrs yesterday, involved, Toyota 4Runner PLL 7337, Toyota Carina wagon PLL 2247 and Toyota Allion PWW 6374.
Witnesses claim PLL 7337 driven by a male, was heading in the direction of Timehri, on the Friendship public road, while PKK 2247, which had a few passengers, one of whom was a gentleman with an artificial leg, was heading in the direction of Georgetown at a fast rate of speed.
The car came into contact with the rear wheel of the Toyota 4Runner, causing the 4Runner to lose control and spin to face the other direction. The Toyota wagon car then ran head on into PWW 6374, which was also heading in the direction of Timehri.
As a result of the accident there was a major traffic hold-up, since the badly damaged vehicles were scattered across the public road. The injured were lying all over the road, as public spirited citizens made attempts to have them taken to the hospital to receive much needed medical attention.
Two of the injured at the time of being removed from the scene were unconscious.
