The Guyana Police Force Traffic Department, at its Eve Leary Headquarters yesterday conducted an exercise on a number of vehicles that had been pulled off the roads as a result of their being heavily tint.
Indeed the owners were peeved. They felt that they were unjustly targeted. A number of vehicles were already in the Eve Leary compound.
When asked what had caused them to be brought to the station, one individual said he was told by traffic ranks that it was his tint, but he claims that he has 35% tint and that he didn’t know why they hold his vehicle.
When asked how he was able to verify the 35% tint that he had, the individual said he knew because “me does do tint work”. However, the police say that a 35 per cent tint is almost indiscernible.
Another individual with a multicolored minibus said, he was told that his bus colours
were not in conformity with his registration, and as such was in breach of traffic laws.
A traffic officer, responding to a query about what was the legally required percentage of tint that road users can have on their vehicles, said, “The permission for any percentage of tint on any vehicle, can only be given by the Ministry of Public Security, through the issuance of a tint permit”.
