Police Corporal Rondell Gouveia appeared yesterday in the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court on six charges related to his alleged assault of his wife and his sister-in-law.
He was charged with unlawful wounding, two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, two counts of threatening language, damage to property, and disorderly behavior. The victims were Candace Younge and Alisha Martin. The incidents occurred on June 5, 2018 at Sophia.
He pleaded not guilty during his appearance before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul and was released on $140,000 bail. He is to return to court on July 9.
It was alleged that he first assaulted Candace Younge, then struck Alisha Martin when she intervened.
The matter was reported to the Turkeyen Police Station and Corporal Gouveia was placed under close arrest at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU).
