The Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary was the venue for the Milo Skills football tournament yesterday where a number of children from various communities across Guyana got a chance to test their expertise at the sport.
Following the conclusion of the one-day competition, the student with the highest number of points will be afforded a trip to Barcelona for the two-day school academy.
Among the skill sets they were being tested on are dribbling, passing and controlling from which scores were accumulated.
Senior Marketing Manager of Milo, Trinidadian, Geysha Thomas-Davis told Kaieteur Sport that this is the second activity of its kind with the first being held last year when Martin King was chosen to attend the Barcelona school academy.
She added that this year’s clinic has attracted over 120 children between the ages of 7-12 and prizes will be given to the top 10 students. She informed that the competition is also being held in Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Jamaica.
She is pleased with the turn out. “The skill set and passion is very good and I must thank the Guyana Football Federation for their support. I am urging the parents and teachers to encourage the children because it is at this level where stars are born.” She said the skill sets are the same throughout the Caribbean. (Zaheer Mohamed)
