Dear Editor,
Reference is hereby made to the unprofessional conduct displayed by a staff member of the Brickdam Secondary School, on May 22.
Shortly before 17:00 hours, I had reason to telephone the school to relay a message to my daughter, a student. In extending the relevant courtesies, I introduced myself, stating my full name.
The female staff member’s response was: “Are you allowed to speak to the child? Previously a father with a similar request was denied by the child’s mother. Call back in ten minutes”.
After fifteen minutes had clasped, I redialed only to be told by the individual: “You can’t speak to the child, or give her anything”.
My response was, “Does the school have any legal document from the Courts of Law, indicating so?”
I was not surprised by her “insolence” thereafter, compounded by unprofessionalism. There was a clear indication that a thorough check of the records wasn’t undertaken. Nevertheless, the staff member was bold enough to outline her non-concern of my threat to publicise the matter.
Suffice it to say that the Education Minister, utilizing her vested powers, designates an employee to investigate and submit a report within forty-eight hours in addition to instituting disciplinary measures if the staff member is found to be culpable.
Meanwhile, a comprehensive national study should be undertaken to ascertain if “fathers are being unfairly and unjustly treated, at the behest of mothers taking the law into their own hands.”
How many fathers are aware of their fundamental rights, in accordance with judicial procedures? In the final analysis it would be remiss of me not to mention that “A prohibition order was granted against me by a Magistrate, for a period of one month, in 2015.”
Is it still relevant today, almost three years later, or is this what the child’s mother is holding onto as a “visa for eternity”?
By the way the Education Minister should enquire the reason why a transfer was requested from Christ Church, for the child. Unbelievingly, I was duly informed by my daughter that: “the teachers at the school are lazy and hardly teach”.
Is this true, if so, is there a functioning P.T.A. and was it ever brought to their attention? Sadly, I doubt this.
