Corwyn Arthur, who reportedly stabbed his ex-lover’s reputed husband to death at Amelia’s Ward, Linden and escaped was some time Thursday night captured at a house in Blairmont, West Coast Berbice.
Police sources in ‘B’ Division confirmed that based on information received, an intelligence led operation aided in the capture of the suspect. The charge was also read to Arthur while in confinement. He has denied committing the act.
Claude ‘Sonno’ DeJonge, a taxi driver of Lot 915 South Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden was murdered by Arthur, well known as ‘Cross eye’, 34, of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, shortly after midnight on May 10, 2018 at Lot 1074 Cinderella City, Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
The deceased was said to be involved in a common-law relationship with Tanya Samuels for 11 years. She was a 35-year-old sales girl of Lot 1074 Cinderella City.
The suspect, Arthur, was entangled in a secret relationship with Samuels, and would reportedly also sleep over at her home. However, the triangular love affair ended in the latter part of 2017 but he would still frequent the home on a friendly basis.
On Wednesday, Arthur, on one of his visits to Samuels’s home, was allegedly under the influence of an illicit drug. When he arrived, he noticed DeJonge was at the premises with Samuels. This allegedly angered him.
DeJonge asked him to leave and an argument erupted. It resulted in DeJonge calling the police.
The suspect subsequently left the home but texted the deceased telling him that he would make his life “a living hell” for calling the police.
Later, as DeJonge was sleeping with his reputed wife, the suspect reportedly gained entry through an open bedroom window and while armed with a knife, dealt DeJonge three stab wounds about his body.
Samuels witnessed the horrific ordeal and alerted neighbours with her screams. Arthur subsequently escaped after his attack.
