May 18, 2018 Letters
Dear Editor,
I support Pt. R. Balbadar’s letter published in your pages on May 15, 2018 under the caption “An insult to Hindus and Muslims”. Pt. Balbadar’s position on Mr. Francis Carryl’s letter published on May 13 is a fair and just one to any person with an open and rational mind.
Kaieteur News Editor’s note on the Pt. Balbadar’s letter is a misplaced one. The editor claims that nothing in Mr. Carryl’s letter sought the convert, but a careful read of the letter points to the contrary. Mr. Carryl has written that he is addressing his letter to “every mother in every society” and he further pens “I beseech you, not to forget that you owe everything to our Blessed Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
How can this not be an attempt to convert when “every mother” in “every society” is beseeched to accept that each owes her existence to the savior of Mr. Carryl’s faith? And the editor in defending such a position notes that “the reader, like Pt. R. Balbadar, could have disregarded it”!
I hasten to ask, is the editor saying to this multi-religious society that we are living in, that its pages will carry the religious sermon of a particular faith to the exclusion of all others and that those professing other faiths should “disregard” it?
Best Regards,
Pt. C. Nandalall
