Dear Editor,
It is with grave concern and great level of disappointment to read a notice on page 12 of the Saturday 5thMay edition of the Kaieteur News, with caption URGENT PUBLIC NOTICE that emanated from the Attorney General’s Chambers.
Notices of such nature readily create some level of anxiety and embarrassment for the persons mentioned and also for their families. More so because of the organization they served, an element of suspicion could be entertained by the reading public.
Concerns are now raised about the intent and purpose of the insensitive and unethical procedure adopted.
It must be noted that most, if not all of the persons mentioned are now senior citizens, who have honourably served the organization for most of their adult working life, and have retired more than twenty years ago. The Guyana Police Force has however maintained contact especially with former Senior Officers.
If perchance the AG’s Chambers encountered difficulty in contacting these persons, which seems doubtful; would it not have been the prudent thing to seek the assistance of the current Commissioner of Police and/or the Ex Police Association to so do?
In instances where some persons now reside overseas with assistance from the Guyana Ex Police Association, I am sure with their networking they would have been able to assist.
The suggested course of action surely could have been effective, would have been far less traumatising and less costly than unwarrantedly placing the names of these persons (a wanted list?) in a newspaper advertisement.
Yours truly,
