A team of final year students reading for their Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at the University of Guyana, Tain Campus, recently built a ‘shade house’ for the Agriculture Department of Winifred Gaskin Memorial Secondary School located in the Manchester Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
As part of the requirements for the Professional Development course, guided by their lecturer Ms. Chelsey Haley-Crawford, the Social Work students (Andrea Charles, Christine Persaud and Ashley Fable) managed to raise enough funds from generous businesses in the Corentyne area, to complete the project.
The ‘shade house’ was handed over to the school at a simple ceremony on March 22.
The project will be an upgrade to the Agriculture department of the school, and will especially assist the CXC students in their Agriculture Science practicum. In addition, it is anticipated that it will motivate the students to develop skills that will provide them with subsistence after their school life.
