Pepsi Under-16 Boxing set for today at National Gymnasium

Savannah Boxing Gym of Region Nine has sent four boxers to participate in the action of the Guyana Boxing Association first Pepsi Michael Parris Under-16 boxing competition set for today at the National Gymnasium from 5:00pm.
The 20-fight card will feature gyms including: Young Achievers, Harpy Eagles, Pocket Rocket, Forgotten Youth Foundation, Vergenoegen (formerly Essequibo), Rose Hall Jammers, Carryl Boxing Gym, Savanah Boxing Gym of Region Nine and the Moruca Power Right gym of Region One.
Several talented young boxers are down to be on show including Vergenoegen’s Shaquincy Wright, a Best Boxers of several similar events.
GBA president Steve Ninvalle has previously explained that the event was shifted due to the competition out growing the Andrew Lewis gym. “The conditions there were quite cramped for such competitions so we decided to switch. It means that fans can now watch our young pugilists in a more comfortable environment,” Ninvalle had said.
Technical Director Terrence Poole is in charge of organizing tonight’s event.
The competition has been named after Guyana’s only Olympic medalist. The first punch is at 5:00pm. Guyana’s silver medalist at last year’s Youth Commonwealth Games ‘Lightning’ Keevin Allicock is a product of the DDL Under-16 programme which is in its sixth year. He will be fighting his first fight at the Commonwealth Games tomorrow.
Admission to tonight’s action is $500.
