Dear Editor,
Today’s Peeping Tom article plays right into the excuse offered by the government for this fiasco, namely that commemorative stamps should be national commemorations. Why the headline “An insult to the supporters of the PPP?” Is not Cheddi Jagan a GUYANESE historical personality worthy of commemoration?
So is it only PPP supporters who are disappointed that there was no stamp as promised? Would only PPP supporters have bought such stamps? Do you not see that this headline gives credence to the suggestion in Government’s excuses, that this was just a partisan commemoration, not a national one?
Also, dear Editor, please ask whoever writes Peeping Tom articles to do a little fact checking before submitting any article for publication. This article on the postage stamp fiasco contains at least two historical inaccuracies that could have been avoided with a simple Wikipedia consultation.
(a) Nobody celebrated the centenary of Karl Marx’s birth in 1983. Marx was born in 1818. He did, however DIE in 1883.
(b) Nor do I expect anyone will be celebrating the centenary of the publication of the Communist Manifesto this year, since it was NOT published in 1918 (a year AFTER the outbreak of the Communist Revolution in Russia and 36 years after Marx’s death). The Manifesto was published in 1848, (170 years ago, this year) a time of much social and political unrest in Europe. And, by the way, the Manifesto was not “authored by Marx”; it was jointly written by Marx and Frederich Engels.

(Kaieteur News) – There is no question that Guyanese would have noticed the brooch worn by Delcy Rodríguez during her recent visits to Grenada and Barbados.
