A 26-year-old woman of Kuru Kururu Squatting Area was stabbed on Thursday by her children’s father after a “small” argument about her whereabouts. She was stabbed in front of her two children aged two and three.
Stacy Romascindo sustained three stab wounds to her neck, leg and belly. She received 30 stitches to the wound on her leg which she said is so painful that she is unable to walk.
She told Kaieteur News that she, along with her sister-in-law and another friend, went to an area in the community where she lives. She said, before leaving home, her assailant asked her where she was going and she told him she was going out.
Upon her return home, Stacy said the man accused her of leaving home to “look for other man”. She said she told him that it was just her and her two friends and tried to convince him that nothing was amiss.
Stacy said that the man went into the bedroom and picked up the knife that he usually keeps in the room. She said he began to walk towards her with the knife but her mother who was at home at the time pleaded with him to stop.
“My mother was trying to talk to him but he was not listening so she said she will call the police and he turned on her with the knife,” she said.
She said her mother fell to the ground but quickly got up. She was able to escape from her assailant by jumping through the children’s bedroom window.
The assailant then turned the knife on Stacy who was still in the room. He stabbed her three times before she was able to escape him.
Stacy’s mother alerted neighbours and called the police.
She was rushed to the hospital where she received 30 stitches to her leg and to her neck.
Romascindo and her assailant have been living together for seven years. She said that he has always been abusive towards her but it has never got to the point where he would pick up a knife and stab her.
She said she tried to leave the relationship several times but kept going back because of her two children. The assailant is currently in custody.
