The MMP Foundation for Excellence based in Tain, Berbice, yesterday donated $50,000 in groceries and $100,000 in cash to a family who lost their home to fire in Albion on Wednesday.
Secretary for the NGO, Ladonna Nero, explained that, “the organisation is based on helping the less fortunate families, and being the case that their home was destroyed that they were living in, we deem it fit and proper to do such”.
Twenty-nine-year-old Mohabir Persaud is the founder of the Mohabir Mookoorchand Persaud (MMP) Foundation for Excellence, which was launched on October 17, 2016, with the objective of providing financial support for underprivileged students.
The non-profit organisation was officially launched at the JC Chandisingh Secondary School located in Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice.
Shaniza Willie, who is in the final stages of her pregnancy, lived at the Lot 116 Block 2 Albion, Corentyne, Berbice residence with her husband and five children, ages ranging from 2 to 11. She recounted that after sending her children off to school, she left home to visit her landlady who lives not too far away. It was approximately half an hour later that someone informed her that her home had gone up in flames.
Meanwhile, according to the mother of the woman, she is now hospitalised after she fell and injured herself yesterday. The children are being taken care of by their grandmother since their father would normally venture out to work during the day.
