The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) yesterday, hosted an open house at Perseverance, East Bank Demerara to showcase the utilisation of living space within the government’s single flat two-bedroom duplexes being constructed at the site.
The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) partnered with Oriental General Store, Jonas’ Bridal and Comfort Sleep to stage this combined Open House Event. The partners in this initiative provided the necessary furnishing for persons to have an idea of how the living space can be maximised.
The ‘Open House’ was launched yesterday and will come to an end on Wednesday, March 21.
In order to ease the minds of intended owners, one of the contractors, who is currently working on the construction of the 33 flat duplexes, said the open house event is necessary.
He said, “The actual reason for this house opening basically is to give the intended owner an idea of the level of comfort that we are providing them with along with the space whereby they can feel comfortable; and to give them some amount of security in terms of the finishes that we have presented them with.”
He noted that from previous visits persons would have raised question about the space afforded to families who intend to purchase the duplexes.
According to the CH&PA’s Public Relations Officer, Iva Wharton, the open house event is also another way the agency can re-build public confidence in the homes provided by the Government.
“When we launched the Housing Solutions 2017 and Beyond initiative last year, it was nothing new to the Guyanese public. However, we found that some persons were a bit skeptical based on the issues we had with the turnkey houses.
“We felt the need to regain the confidence of the Guyanese public hence another chance to show them what we have to offer,” Wharton explained.
Over the two-week period, interested persons can visit the housing scheme from 09:00hrs to 14:00hrs on weekdays, and 9:00hrs to 13:00hrs on Saturdays to view the duplexes being built.
