A grassy contract
Dear Editor;
If my memory serves me right, early in the negotiations with the oil company some brilliant government official, when advised to check into the company’s background, said that that was not really necessary.
I was very surprised at that response. If l applied for a job with some company, the company usually digs into my background to find out my work history, my police record, and all other relevant information.
Had our Government done that with ExxonMobil, they most likely would not be in the mess that they find themselves in today.
A Guyanese proverb says “if you mek youself grass, horse go eat you.” The Guyana Government is acting like grass. It made a very grassy contract with ExxonMobil and the oil giant is eating them up.
