Mashramani activities culminated in the Mining Town of Linden yesterday with a massive float parade despite intermittent showers.
Thousands of revellers resplendently decked in flamboyant gear wended their way from the Mackenzie shore across the Mackenzie /Wismar Bridge all the way to the Bayroc Community Centre Ground where the event culminated in grand party mode.
They were undaunted by the sporadic rainfall which turned torrential as the parade made its way into the Bayroc Community Centre Ground.

Among those leading the floats and gyrating to the infectious soca music was Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources Simona Broomes. There were floats from the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport, Ministry of Natural Resources, and the Linden Mayor and Town Council.
First Time
Just last week, the combined Children’s Float parade was held on the Wismar shore for the first time.
The event saw the Winifred Gaskin Highway transformed into a sea of kaleidoscopic colors and excited children exhibiting intricate dance moves as they wended their way up the thoroughfare.
Participants from the Primary and Nursery Schools across Linden donned colorful costumes depicting various themes in celebration of Mashramani.
It was the Region Ten Education Department Children’s Mashramani Float parade celebrating the country’s forty eight year as a Republic.
Sonia Fraser Pearse, Education Officer from the Region Ten Education Department said that a decision was taken by the Department to host the activity on the Wismar Shore, after it was recognized that most events were hosted at Mackenzie…”So we decided this year to go across to Wismar. ”
The Primary schools moved off from the New Silver City Secondary School, and the Nursery Division moved off from the One Mile area. Both divisions made their way to the Bayroc Community Centre Ground where the costumes were paraded for the benefit of the appreciative crowd that had gathered, and for judging. Wismar Hill Primary was adjudged winner in the Primary division while Pine Street Nursery gained supremacy in that division.
The Coomacka Primary copped the second position for Primary schools, while Mackenzie Primary had to settle for third place.
Burnham Drive Nursery and Republic Avenue Nursery copped the second and third places respectively in the Nursery Division.
