The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder of a peacemaker who was stabbed to death after he tried to separate two brothers who were fighting will commence on March 13 before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Twenty-six-year-old Jermaine Abel is currently on remand for the murder of 27-year-old Hafeez Douglas, whom he allegedly stabbed to death during a fight with his younger brother.
The unrepresented man was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on November 8, last, at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he murdered Douglas. Thursday when the matter was called in Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman courtroom, Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves told the court that the prosecution file is complete and the PI into the murder will commence on March 13.
According to information, Douglas was stabbed to death after he attempted to resolve a dispute between Abel and his younger brother.
Douglas, after being stabbed collapsed to the ground and was later pronounced dead by an Emergency Medical Technician.
It was reported that Abel and his brother were fighting when the deceased separated the duo. But Abel who was reportedly armed with a knife pursued his brother to stab him. Douglas allegedly grabbed the knife from Abel and pushed him away.
Reports are that Abel got angry and turned his rage on Douglas, stabbing him to the chest—causing him to fall into a nearby drain. Abel then ran to the North Ruimveldt Police Outpost and reported the matter.
