African Guyanese to meet on UN IDPAD summit

Through support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Guyanese organisations will be able to organise an international conference in response to the United Nations mandate addressing the dire circumstances of people of African Descent around the world.
IDPAD Summit 2018 brings together experts of African ancestry from more than 25 countries to discuss these five critical areas– Business and Finance, ICT, Health and Wellness, Education and Culture, and Human Rights and Geopolitics.
The goal of the conference is to chart a way forward on these issues for the consideration of national and civil society leaders on the Continent and throughout the Diaspora.
African Guyanese organisations including the ACDA, Reparations Committee, Pan African Movement (Guyana Branch), Cuffy 250 Committee, IDPADA, and representatives from Linden, Buxton, and other village groups have been invited to bring the Guyanese perspective to the discussions.
A special effort has been made to engage younger Guyanese, high school, and university students, in the opening ceremony and other sessions of the conference.
IDPAD 2015-2024 was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in a Resolution (68/237) adopted on December 23, 2013.
The theme of the International Decade is “People of African Descent: Recognition, Justice and Development”.
IDPAD Summit 2018, hosted by Guyana, is a response to the call for a sustained programme to address issues that globally are plaguing the African path to equality and prosperity.
