Dear Editor,
I use this opportunity to share my thoughts and impressions to the people of this great country Guyana – my home.
Nestled between Brazil and Venezuela, Guyana can easily go unnoticed. It has about 750,000 inhabitants and per capita income of $4,300, half the regional average – qualifying it as the hemisphere’s third poorest nation.
However at the moment Guyana also might be the luckiest, having struck huge oil offshore – discovered since 2015. We are the talk of the region. Added to that, according to industry experts, Guyana’s approximate total reserves are at around 2 billion barrels.
With that said, that could make Guyana one of richest Latin American producers in less than a decade. Are we ready and prepared to manage this great precious resource? That could bring the blessings and change for the better.
I challenge us all to band together – Government and Opposition – to purposely, skillfully and honestly put Guyana first and its people.
In closing as I quote these words of Nelson Mandela, “As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom. I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison”.
Let us unite and build Guyana. “One People, One Nation with One Destiny.”

Hard Truths by GHK Lall (Kaieteur News) – I feel as though I am shortchanging my fellow American, U.S. Ambassador, Nicole D. Theriot. I take my hat off to her, regret there’s only one to offer.
