Dear Editor,
Not very often would you find a media publication commending G.P.L for the services it provides but I am obliged to write on behalf of our organisation, Indian Vision for National Harmony (a group of Indian Supporters of the APNU+AFC, working towards promoting good governance and development and restoring racial trust).
We are showering praises to the Commercial officer, Mr. Anthony Johnson, Mr. Samuel Blackman (transmission and Distribution Engineer), West Demerara area and team for honouring a commitment to the residents of Anna Catherina Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara (W.C.D).
On the 28th November, 2017, following complaints from the community about faulty and leaning poles supporting electrical wires and transformers; I called G.P.L Vreed-en-Hoop Branch and related the anxiety of the residents to Mr. Johnson who was very attentive and cooperative.
As such, he immediately referred me to Mr. Blackman who unhesitatingly, within “minutes” visited the area in my presence and upon assessing the situation, promised to do a complete work in the affected area before 15th December, 2017.
Much to our relief and surprise, Mr. Blackman and team commenced the entire process on 12th December, 2017 and by the evening of 13th December, 2017, after their tedious effort, were able to bring satisfaction to our community.
However, they went beyond our complaints and did some additional maintenance works in an adjacent community (Edinburg/North) which comprises about 60 houses, bringing smiles to those residents also.
Amazingly, all those works were done in two days. A total of 10 poles with cross bars included, were erected with a complete changeover of electrical wires and transformers. Also, six faulty poles were removed. The undertaking was a success due to the diligent effort from the entire team.
We hope that the exercise will be an inspiration to the other GPL branches across our country so that all Guyanese can be proud of this service provided by our government.
Thank you for a wonderful job done.
Balchand Ramnarain
