Dear Editor,
The University of Guyana must be commended for its decision to set up a broad-based Committee to plan activities in honour of former President of Guyana, the late Dr. Cheddi Jagan.
This is indeed a timely and fitting gesture for someone who was instrumental in the establishment of the University of Guyana. It is a known fact the University of Guyana which was established in 1963 was the brainchild of Dr. Jagan who, despite the odds, was successful in setting up the University.
Today, the University stands as living testimony to the visionary qualities of Dr. Jagan who was passionate about the sustainable growth and development of Guyana.
This year marks 100 years since the birth of Dr. Jagan and to commemorate this historic milestone several activities are planned by the PPP, of which he was a founding member, and the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre which was established to preserve and promote his great legacy.
