Dear Editor,
Please allow me to express on behalf of the children, parents, teachers and members of the APNU+AFC side of the RDC, heartfelt thanks to President David Granger and Hon. Amna Ally MP, Minister of Social Protection for once again visiting Region Five. Moreover, big thanks for yet another gift from the Presidents 5B’s Initiative.
On Friday 12th January, 2018, the President once again commissioned another David ‘G’ School bus that will be used to transport school children within sub-region one in Region Five.
This brings the number of David ‘G’ school buses to four within the region. Also in the past years, the region benefitted tremendously from this programme in the form of bicycles, boat, bags, etc.
During the speech of Hon. Amna Ally, she clearly states that this government is for all of Guyana and wants better, no matter people’s religion, sex, status, political affiliation, etc. She stressed that for Guyana to move forward positively we all need to cooperate, be united in taking Guyana forward.
The Minister went on to tell the audience that betterment is coming and the children are our future. She talks of the investments within the education sector that this government did since taking office. Amna Ally talks about the school feeding program that is taking place within the regions and most importantly, mentioned that the President’s vision is to see every child have equal access to education.
During President Granger’s speech, he clearly put it out that the investment that is being made within this sector since May 2015, has seen drastic improvements in children’s education. He talks about the improved school attendance because of the 5B programme that is spread across Guyana.
He spoke of Region Five being an agricultural region and encouraged residents to take up the mantle in sustaining the agricultural activities within the region. He talks about the potentials the region has towards driving the regional economy forward through agriculture.
The President called on the parents to ensure that their children who are the future leaders of Guyana take their education seriously. He stressed the need for parents to play their role in ensuring that the children attend classes more often. The President thanked all corporate Guyana that contributed towards ensuring that our children are being cared for, especially those that could not have afforded to attend school every day, although they desired to.
What caught my attention, and I know the others also during his speech, was when His Excellency mentioned sugar estates. I was elated to hear that the President assures sugar workers of my region that Blairmont Sugar Estate will not be closed down under this government.
This sent a joyous and electric feeling into me, knowingly that all which is being said by the naysayers on TV and bottom houses in Region Five concerning the closing of the Blairmont estate is untrue.
Sugar workers in Region Five are being assured that their estate will be there functioning. I will like to clearly state that the President didn’t say that because the PPP and their false news prophets are spreading that the estate will be closed. But his Excellency made that announcement because we all know that Blairmont Estate most or all of the times surpasses its targets per crop.
We all know that the President wants to preserve sugar and I will like to say thank you, Mr. President, for dismissing the PPP and GAWU false news that they are spreading amongst the sugar belt in Region Five.
President David Granger said that no matter what, he is, and will be President for all Guyana, no matter the protest that is taking place wherever he goes because he is President for all of Guyana. The President clearly says that he will not be distracted by those who don’t want to see development and that he will continue to take Guyana forward no matter what.
This now brings me to the PPP and its wishy-washy protest wherever the President and the Prime Minister goes, taking developmental projects and programmes that will benefit the people.
It amazes people to know how low the PPP will go by using its supporters and members to protest when there are positive things happening. Let it be known that when the PPP stages protests in Region Five the protest does not attract more than 20 persons at any given time.
On the said day of the commissioning of the David ‘G’ School Bus, PPP members were seen protesting on the main road in Novar, Mahaicony. Maybe it was surprising to those that passed by the protesters, merely 12. I must clearly say, also, that the persons there were shipped in to do the protest, were mainly from Bath\Woodley Park area. Three persons were from the Mahaicony area. I must also say none of them were sugar workers, mostly female protesters that I have known to be housewives.
The residents of Region Five, especially the PPP support base, need to take a serious look as to when positives are happening, what are the actions of the regional chairman? He is the one that is said to be the organiser and leader of that wishy-washy protest, his deputy the vice chairman also join him.
It’s not the first time the PPP has been protesting when the residents of Region Five are benefitting. But it amazes me to see that the chairman and his few protesters were protesting against the President for giving the children an opportunity to go to school free of cost.
Can you imagine those PPP people want to tell the residents of Region Five that they care for them?. That’s bull. They don’t care, all they want is power and they will use who is taking using within their party.
The parents and children of Region Five especially those in sub-region one that will be benefitting from the service of the bus, are happy to know that this government cares for them. But the chairman and the PPP are sad because out of the entire Mahaicony sub-region only a couple of persons join their protest.
I call on the regional chairman to stop being against regional development.
Regards
Abel Seetaram
