Dear Editor,
I read the recent letter about poor customer service in Guyana, and thought things are still the same as when I briefly relocated to Georgetown in the 1990s. Then, I had to personally complain to the manager of a ‘paint shop’ located in the Stabroek end of Regent Street about a scruffy saleswoman ‘chucking’ change at me in the manner of throwing a bone to a dog.
I did so in the presence of others, because it was the second time it had happened years apart and had demonstrably become habit. From her clothing, I gathered she was poorly paid and therefore ‘cheap’ labour, so…’
I had hoped that by now sales techniques had vastly improved in the country. Apparently not generally. If people do not buy, the doors will eventually remain closed. Think on this.
One thought: Does the Government outfit, housed in the former “Bookers building” across the road from the Bank of Guyana, still offer better service? I found they did, whenever I visited. In fact, they were on a par with many London shops – courteous and helpful..
