Dear Editor,
I would like to take this opportunity to commend Stabroek News, Kaieteur News and Guyana Times on their journalism. While SN, for me, sets the standard for impartiality in reporting the news KN and GT (whom I deem as pro-Government and pro-Opposition, respectively) have come a long way and are being less concerned with promoting the Government or the Opposition in a positive manner.
As the Fourth Estate, the media needs to hold both the Government and the Opposition accountable in Guyana. Given the Government, any Government, seemingly immense resources at its disposal how can the free media compete with this propaganda-peddling behemoth via the State Media (Guyana Chronicle and NCN)?
Clearly, there is a need for a more level playing field. And, as such the Guyana Chronicle (a pro-Government newspaper) and NCN (a pro-Government Station) need to be privatised.
Isn’t it time for Press-shy President David Granger to give serious considerations to making this possible?
We are not going to be here forever; we need to leave better institutions of state than we inherited from our predecessor.
Yours Faithfully
Sean Ori
