Dear Editor,
Listening to Bharrat Jagdeo, is to try the soul, since his tirades continue to be filled with desperations of lies, as he tries to garner sympathy from wherever such may be possible.
But the lies are incessant, and are dangerous; and even though there are many who are aware of such a proclivity, yet it is not enough. I am of the view that every opportunity ought to be utilized to expose this hypocrite and dangerous liar, as political opposition leader.
In a recent press conference, in which he sought to justify his party’s parliamentary infamy with a comparison to the invasion of the formerly named, Office of the President’s compound over a decade ago, two lies were displayed
Lie No 1: He spoke of the post- invasion disunity that resulted because of the incident. He did not say how this occurred. This has to be another attempt to provide a false cover for a racially divisive process that he and party had already set in motion.
Lie No. 2: Alluding to the 2015 polls as being rigged – he claimed that his party accepted the results, and has been “struggling’’ since – whatever, the latter term means.
Is Jagdeo for real? All and sundry know that the polls were free and fair. Ballots were counted at the respective polling stations in the presence of the representative of each contesting political party, and results in the form of a Statement of Poll, duly signed by a Polling officer/clerk, in the presence all contesting party observers, and posted at each polling station. Thus by what magic, or contrivance could such a malpractice have occurred, is best left to Jagdeo’s desperate imagination.
Again, he and his party never accepted the results, as they commenced a strategy, not only to de-emphasise the David Granger Presidency; but also advising their stronghold regions and NDCs not to cooperate with the government.
In fact, such an anti-national and unpatriotic act has ever since been in train, long before the recently announced party line of non-cooperation as a result of disagreement with the President’s appointment of the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
Editor, there is such a galling bitterness on the part of Jagdeo as a result of the electoral defeat, that he knows no bounds in seeking the destabilization of the current government, and by extension, the country at large.
Using the highly dangerous race card that he hopes will effect a deterioration of the national peace, and bring the international spotlight on the government.
Further on the claims of the 2015 polls being rigged; it is very, very rare that an incumbent government as the Peoples Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) had been at that material time, would have allowed such an electoral untoward to occur. Jagdeo is still to explain this to his party supporters.
What he ought to explain is why did the former Chief Elections Officer, Gocool Boodoo set about the concoction of stats in respect of the 2011 national elections, that had it not been uncovered by a vigilant commissioner Vincent Alexander, would have given a one- seat majority to the then PPP/C government.
That was an electoral BAREFACED action which took place under the PPP/C’s watch. But rather than advise Boodoo to resign, as was the ethical thing to do – the PPP/C insisted on his remaining. It had to take the casting vote of the GECOM Chairman to oust the dishonest Boodoo.
From that moment the chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally never had a peaceful day until he resigned, as far as the PPP/C was concerned. Dr. Surujbally did what had been constitutionally required of him – uphold the rules.
This specific incident, characterizes the evil psyche, vindictiveness and spite of a party to the point where he now accuses the government of violating the constitution.
Not too long ago, there was an editorial in your media, captioned “Lies have dangerous national consequences”.
It gave an insight into the Jagdeo evil scheme of seeking the Presidency. Those who are his backers, by their silence, must understand the shared moral responsibility they have for continuing to foster such a threat to the national peace.
Regards,
Earl Hamilton
