The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) is intensifying efforts to remove public distrust and improve its record keeping system. In this regard, the scheme has commenced meeting with major employers to assist with the
data cleansing process, among other matters.
Recently, a team from NIS led by General Manager, Ms. Holly Greaves, met with Brigadier Patrick West and a team from the Guyana Defence Force. The meeting was conducted at the GDF’s Headquarters, Camp Ayanganna, Thomas Lands, Georgetown.
Some of the issues highlighted at that meeting included the following:
(i) The importance of record keeping at both entities
(ii) The need for and importance of networking
(iii) The sharing of relevant data
(iv) The need for consistent educational sessions for GDF employees
Members from both sides of the table were said to have left the meeting satisfied with the progress made and committed to having frequent communication with each other.
NIS has already met with the Veterans’ Association and GuySuCo, its largest employer, as part of its campaign.
Further, the Scheme has reported that as a result of those meetings with GuySuCo, a number of estates were able to complete the data cleansing process which will aid in the smooth electronic submission of contributions.
The NIS also chose the opportunity to remind contributors who are 55 years and over of its Pension readiness programme which encourages an individual to check on his or her contributions, name and other information to ensure that everything is intact prior to attaining age 60 years. Contributors are encouraged to visit the nearest Local Office to them.
