Rose Hall Town Pepsi Under-19 ‘A’ beat Young Warriors by 64 runs

Town Pepsi ‘A’ Under-19 Team on Saturday last played arch rivals Young Warriors of Cumberland and easily defeated them by 64 runs at the Hampshire Cricket Ground. The match was played 40-Overs per side and was witnessed by a fair size crowd.
Batting first after winning the toss, Rose Hall Town Pepsi ‘A’ were given a solid opening stand by National Under-19 player Kevin Sinclair and National Under-17 player Junior Sinclair. The pair added 115 for the first wicket in 17 overs with Kevin Sinclair playing the attacking role.
Junior Sinclair was the first batsman to be dismissed for 25, stumped off left arm spinner Trevon Stanislaus. Kevin Sinclair was joined by Chanderpaul Govindan and together they added 30 for the 2nd wicket before Sinclair was bowled for a well played 90 by off spinner Ricardo Ramdehol at 145 for two in the 24th Over. Ramdehol, a National Under-15 player then dismissed Keith Simpson (14) and Joel Pike (00) to leave Rose Hall Town Pepsi at 170 for four but Govindan batted brilliantly along with Kevlon Anderson (15) and Jonathan Rampersaud (16) to take their team to an imposing 264 for eight off their allotted 40-Overs. Govindan a Berbice Under-15 player scored 65 off 68 balls with seven delightful boundaries and three powerfully hit sixes.
Bowling for Young Warriors, Rovendan Nippaih took two wickets for 12 runs from two Overs, while Ricardo Ramdehol took 3 wickets for 45 runs from 6-Overs. Trevon Stanislaus supported with 1 for 60 from 8-Overs.
Needing to score at 6.62 runs per over to register an upset victory over the defending Berbice Under-19 Champions, Young Warriors suffered an early set back when Jeran France was bowled off the inside edge by pacer Joshua Wilson for 01 in the second over. The left handed Stanislaus joined the solid looking Ricardo Ramdehol and together they added 60 for the 2nd wicket off 12 Overs before offspinner Kevin Sinclair had Ramdehol LBW for 24, which included five sweetly times boundaries. National Junior Cricketer Garfield Benjamin was then caught at the wicket off Sinclair for a second ball duck to leave the visitors in a bit of trouble at 73 for 3. Stanislaus, a Shivnarine Chanderpaul type of player, however, was solid in defence and batted through the innings to remain unbeaten on 57 from 103 balls. His innings despite being slowed was quite impressive and included four boundaries. He received support from National Players Carlton Gilgeous 36 and Leon Swammy 16 as the Rose Hall Town Pepsi spinners kept the visitors on a tight rein. Kevin Sinclair completed another fine outstanding allround performance by taking 2 for 24, while Berbice Under-19 left arm spinner Keith Simpson took 4 for 26 from 8-Overs. Joshua Wilson and Kevlon Anderson both took one wicket each. Eleven years old Matthew Pattaya made his senior debut for the Pepsi ‘A’ Team and bowled four impressive Overs.
Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, Vice President and Head of the Cricket Development Committee Mark Papannah stated that the Club would be organising a series of matches for the rest of the year for its junior cricket teams (Under-12, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19) Female, Second Division and First Division. The matches would be played against Clubs in Berbice, while some would be against Clubs in Georgetown in an effort to expose the young club members to different playing conditions.
