Dear Editor,
On October 6th, 2017 the African Cultural & Development Association released its annual statement on the African Holocaust/Maafa. This statement was distributed to most of the major newspapers including the Stabroek News; it was only carried by the Guyana Chronicle newspapers in its October 7th, 2017 edition.
Not surprising ACDA noted that despite the Stabroek News decision not to carry the ACDA’s statement it did give prime space in its Sunday edition of October 8th, 2017 to the former PPP Prime Minister to write almost an entire page to respond to the ACDA’s Statement.
It would seem that “Stabroek News, which was denied government advertisement by the PPP government, is now perhaps the most ready source of PPP views and news outside of the PPP-aligned Guyana Times. It is not just the volume of coverage of the PPP, but it is the subtle and not-so-subtle favourable coverage that is driving that perception.” (Prof David Hinds, Guyana Chronicle October 1st, 2017)
Finally,on Thursday October 12th ACDA will again join with African-centered Organizations and First Nations Globally to commemorate and host a Holocaust /Maafa Memorial Program at the Seawall Bandstand. The Program starts at 8:30am. High tide is at 9:45am. Everyone is welcome and floral tributes are encouraged.
Wynetta Jones
Secretary
