Satrohan Madray murder trial …Defence makes no case submission

The trial of murder accused, Satrohan Madray, called ‘Bluie’, 30, of Bennet Dam, D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice is continuing in the High Court.
Madray is accused of murdering his good friend, Dinesh Harrylall, called ‘Kevin’. The trial judge is Justice James Bovell- Drakes.
When the matter was called again defence attorney, Mursalene Bacchus, submitted a no case submission on behalf of his client at the conclusion of a lengthy voir dire (a trial within a trial).
According to Bacchus, the prosecution has so far failed to make a case against his client. He said that the prosecution’s case, thus far, is weak and tenuous and there is no evidence to show that his client committed any offence.
As such, he is asking the judge to stop the case from going to the jury.
Harrylall, a construction worker of Lot 38 B Woodley Park, No. 11 Village, West Coast Berbice, was 20 at the time of his demise.
He was reportedly found lying in a pool of blood at his friend’s residence at D’Edward Village, West Bank Berbice. He was allegedly brutally beaten and stabbed about his body.
He had reportedly left home to go to Madray’s house. The men were said to be close friends and frequented each other’s place on a regular basis. Harrylall did not return home.
Madray was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
On the night in question it was reported that they had a disagreement which led to the killing.
So far, the Prosecution which is being headed by attorney at law Orinthia Schmidt, has called seven witnesses, including Jagdesh Harrylall, the father of the deceased.
Police Sergeant, Curtis Cort; Corporal Lawrence Harvey, Constable Alexander, Ex Police forensic expert Tamika Henry; Dr. Vivikananda Brijmohan and civilian Jagdesh Jagnarine have testified.
The testimony of Detective Corporal Dharmindra Inderpaul was accepted into evidence.
The preliminary inquiry was conducted before Magistrate Rhondell Weever at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s court where a prima facie case was made out against him.
