Five Guyanese included
Five Guyanese have been included in a 17-man squad named by the West Indies
Cricket Council for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WICCBVI) to participate in the fourth edition of the 40-over World Cup for the blind and visually impaired from January 7-21 in Dubai.
Leroy Phillips, Ganesh Singh, Douglas Tika, Kevin Douglas, Seon Mitchell are the Guyanese named in the squad with Tika and Mitchell expected to make their debuts in Dubai.
Sean Straker, Douglas Tika, Seon Mitchell and Oshane Fortella have been selected for the first time in a squad while the other members participated in the T20 World Cup in India earlier this year.
The squad consists of six (6) B1s, five (5) B2s and six (6) B3s. B1; refers to persons who are totally blind , B2 are persons who are partially blind andB3 are those who are partially sighted.
The squad reads: (B1) Leroy Phillips, Ganesh Singh, Douglas Tika (Guyana), Jason Ricketts, Marlon Cole (Jamaica) and Shawn Straker (Barbados). B2s: Gregory Stewart, Alvin James (Jamaica), Ricardo Manning, Kci Ward-Ryan (Barbados) and Seon Mitchell (Guyana). B3s: Lo-Shane Myles, Dennal Shim, Oshane Fortella (Jamaica), Kevin Douglas (Guyana) and Karl Sobers, Halden Ford (Barbados).
The team will be coached by Glendon Coke and Managed by Stevenson Evelyn. Carrison Henry will be the team’s Physio.
The team will assemble in Guyana for a one week camp before departing the Caribbean on January 5.
