Workers constructing a catchment area for the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) at Paramakatoi, Region Eight, last week uncovered two pieces of strange looking objects while excavating.
They are now calling on local scientists and other experts to determine whether the pieces, one which is shaped like a human head, are of any significant value to the history of Guyana.
According to an official of Region Eight, Daniel Fraser, in Facebook postings which are going viral, the second piece is consistent with what appears to be the head of a snake.
“I’ve noticed with growing interest that two pieces of stone shape consistent with the head of a human and that of a serpent was found in Paramakatoi, North Palaraimas (Mountain Range), Region Eight, during an excavation by GWI to construct a catchment area for the supply of water to the community.”
According to Fraser, the discovery of the pieces would raise questions about the significance of the find. The photos were posted by Dwayne Marco, who is said to be working on the GWI project.
“Is this find of any significance that demands scientific investigation? Is there a piece of our Indigenous People’s history being overlooked, or more so, a part of Guyana’s history from before known times? I’m so curious, and so should every Guyanese irrespective of race, colour or origin,” Fraser posted.
He urged that someone from the Ministry of Culture, Minister of Indigenous People’s Affairs and the Walter Roth Museum pursue the find.
The hinterland is dotted with Amerindian communities.
