The East Bank Demerara Cricket Association (EBDCA) has rewarded all-rounders Sherfane Rutherford and Ronaldo Alimohamed and batsman Sachin Singh for their outstanding performances in the ongoing Cricket Guyana Inc. Jaguars three-day franchise league.
The EBDCA recognised the trio as ambassadors for their Franchise team and as a result issued certificates to the players while Rutherford was presented with a bat from businessman Mark Rodrigues. The presentation took place at the Gandhi Youth Organisation ground, Woolford Avenue yesterday during the team’s practice session.
Rutherford struck 108 while Singh scored 99 against leaders Essequibo in their game last weekend which was affected by rain at Everest ground. Rutherford also picked up 15 wickets against Georgetown in the opening round at Lusignan while Alimohamed’s best performance to date came against West Demerara where he scored 49 and picked up three wickets.
Mohamed, who led Guyana to victory in the recently concluded Regional Under-19 three-day tournament, has been elevated to the Captaincy of the EBDCA Franchise team. Singh led the Regional Under-16 side on their recent tour to England and was a member of the Guyana Under-17 team which played in the Regional tournament this July in Trinidad.
Speaking with the media, President of the EBDCA Anand Kalladeen lauded the players for their efforts and urged them to strive for greater heights while Alimohamed said he felt honoured to be given the captaincy and will put his best foot forward.
He expressed confidence going into today’s game against West Berbice at Bush Lot.
