A Mazaruni prisoner was recaptured hours after he was discovered missing on Wednesday morning. He was among other inmates on the prison farm when he managed to slip away without the officers spotting him.
The suspect is 31-year-old Vijay Sanchara of Mariah’s Pleasure, Wakenaam. He was held at Groete Creek at 17:15 hrs.
Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels said the 31-year old was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for wounding with intent.
According to information received, the recaptured escapee and other prisoners were taken to the farm to do duties. It was when the prisoners returned to the prison that they realized that one of them was missing.
Sanchara is among those inmates who were transferred to Mazaruni from the Camp Street Prison which was destroyed by a fire on July 9, last, when four high profile criminals staged a daring break out.
Initially, he was sent to Lusignan Prison but was subsequently transferred to Mazaruni.
