Coconut tree crashes through roof

A squall that swept across Linden yesterday uprooted several trees and damaged the roofs of quite a few houses and other buildings.
The most disastrous occurred in Poker Street, Wismar, where a coconut tree crashed into a resident’s roof and landed in his living room.
Seventy-four-year-old Gilbert Daniels is now exposed to the elements as a result, but he has a bountiful supply of water coconuts within hand reach.
Yet Gilbert does not care about the coconuts; his main concern right now is getting the tree out of his house and rebuilding the roof.
“Putting back this roof gonna cost a lot of money and I don’t know where I’m getting it from. I’m a guard (working with Linden Enterprise Network) but the money I earn there cannot cover these expenses. As you can see is not just the roof. All the side wall damage. I hope I can get some assistance to put things back in place.”
Gilbert said that he was asleep when the tree crashed through the roof…”I feel this heavy thud and vibration like earthquake and when I come outside I see the tree in the house. I just thankful to God that I was in the bedroom”.
Several neighbours rushed over to see what the commotion was about and a few of them rendered much needed assistance to Daniels who lives alone.
There were reports of several other trees being uprooted in Christianburg and Wisroc on Wismar. Several stallholders on the Mackenzie market wharf are also counting their losses after the roofs to their stalls were ripped off.
The squalls which started Monday night and continued yesterday afternoon had residents cowering in their homes, as the Town was plunged into blackout. Power outages continued intermittently throughout the day.
