Police of G Division are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, of a 34-year-old labourer of New Road, Essequibo Coast.
The body was discovered yesterday and identified as Terrence Ramcharran of lot 26 New Road. Ramcharran went missing Tuesday afternoon. The discovery was made yesterday around 11:00 hrs in a nearby Canal in Charity.
The deceased who was the sole breadwinner of his family leaves to mourn his wife, Shelana Ramcharran and his three young children.
Reports are that prior to him going missing, Ramcharran was last seen drinking with friends from his community. Sources claim that the deceased later went swimming with the friends in a Canal in Charity, where he is believed to have subsequently drowned.
The dead man’s wife, Shelana Ramcharran, told this publication that she received the tragic message of her husband’s death just one hour after his disappearance.
“I got a call [Tuesday] afternoon around 17:00 hrs, saying my husband drowned. Right away I went down the road and start looking for him, but I didn’t find him. My sister in law went to the scene where he de drinking, but she just found his footwear. The two guys that he de drinking with, lef he in the canal and gone. They said when they left he de still swimming.”
The afternoon search proved futile as Terrence neither showed up home on Tuesday night. Shelana then reported her husband missing at the Charity Police Station. Hours later the tragedy intensified. The worst scenario quickly came to life.
Shelana explained, “After I made the report this morning, somebody told me he drowned because the place smelling rank. The koker man then asked if anybody come to look fo me husband. Me tell him nobody ain’t come yet. So the man decide to go in the canal to feel for him. The first feel he feel he find me husband!”
The discovery shook all; Ramcharran’s face was completely eaten by piranhas.
The friends are expected to be detained by police to assist in investigations. The body is currently at the Suddie Hospital awaiting a postmortem examination.
