Ex-con jailed for smuggling cocaine in ghee
JAILED: Orin Lewis Boodie
An ex-convict was yesterday jailed for three years for attempting to smuggle over 14 pounds of cocaine in ghee to the United States of America via the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
Orin Lewis Boodie, who was arrested in July 2014 for the offence was convicted by Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus at the Providence Magistrate’s Courts.
On July 4, 2014 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Boodie had 7.170 kilograms of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
On the day in question, Boodie was an outgoing passenger on a flight destined for the United States when the scanner detected five tins in his luggage. The tins were probed by ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) and two ghee tins containing cocaine were uncovered.
Attorney-at-Law Konyo Sandiford prosecuted the matter on behalf of CANU.
Boodie was convicted in 2006 for a similar offence.
