A 26-year-old construction worker, who allegedly beheaded his uncle on Sunday over a dispute for family land, was yesterday remanded on a murder charge after making an appearance before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Courts.
Dwayne Tappin, a father of one, of no fixed place of abode, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on August 6, at South Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, he murdered Randolph Seenauth. The unrepresented accused was remanded to prison until September 28, when the matter will be called again for reports.
The matter was prosecuted by Police Inspector Rushelle Alexander.
Commander of Police ‘C’ Division Calvin Brutus, who visited the murder scene on Sunday, said that Seenauth and his nephew lived in separate apartments on the plot of land.
It is alleged that at around 04:30hrs, neighbours heard a loud commotion in one of the apartments.
Neighbours called out for Seenauth but got no response and later contacted ranks at the Sparendaam Police Station.
Police arrived shortly after and upon pushing the front door to Seenauth’s apartment they found his head lying in a passageway between the living room and kitchen. Further checks were made in the apartment and the rest of the man’s body was discovered on a mattress in the bedroom.
Brutus had stated the murder weapon was not recovered despite searches on both apartments.
A sister of the deceased had accused Tappin of constantly assaulting her brother over an ongoing dispute their family is having over the land where the murder occurred.
The sister disclosed that the dispute is currently engaging the attention of the High Court.
