Dear Editor,
I was never wrong. Editors, you can all attest to the fact that I have penned articles which was published in the past in particular about US based Track Athlete and World Junior Silver Medalist, Kadecia Beard. I only know of the young lady from the press reports since she made headlines a while back and I did say that Guyana was never in a position to financially undertake the cost of maintaining this young lady with her career.
I suggested via my publications that perhaps she should look at her options in the USA and if she manages to come by a major sponsor and makes Team USA, she will be better off representing that flag. I honestly don’t think that there is anyone who joined in penning an article in support and many felt that she is better off representing Team Guyana. Well, I just read in another newspaper dated July 18, 2017 and captioned ‘Thompson, Baird blame Aliann Pompey invitational performances on lack of support.’
Kadecia Baird did say in the above mentioned article that she is about ready to shop around elsewhere and possibly not representing Guyana at the London World Championships 2017 and in 2018 she could run for another country. I tap myself on the shoulders.
I was never wrong that Guyana was not prepared to nurture and fund Kadecia Baird towards international stardom after the World Junior Championships where she earned a silver medal some years ago. If it is not too late, I say publicly to Kadecia Baird, you have my full support if you manage and choose to compete for TEAM USA.
