As investigation continues into the murder of Kitty resident, Devon Ali, the police on Sunday arrested the killer’s brother and his wife. The accused killer is Lisa Hayley.
The two persons and the suspect, Lisa Hayley, provided different versions of the murder to the cops.
Ali was stabbed to the chest on Friday in the presence of the suspect’s sibling and his wife. He died around 11:00 hrs on Saturday at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
While the woman claimed that she stabbed the deceased in self defence and not with the intention of killing him, it is believed that her brother and his wife are trying to cover for their relative.
She told the police that she and the deceased have been together for the past three years. During that time, she had been abused frequently.
According to reports, Hayley was forced into prostitution by the now dead Ali who would usually take away whatever cash she made.
Last week, the duo got into a heated argument and Hayley claimed that the suspect beat her and threatened to kill her. Tired of being abused, she moved from her Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home and went to stay with her brother in Kitty.
Ali reportedly turned up at the woman’s home and demanded to talk to her. “Her brother told him that she wasn’t there,” a source said.
The woman was at the time entering her brother’s yard. Ali spotted her and reportedly attacked her with two knives.
This newspaper was informed that during the process, Hayley managed to get her hands on one of the knives and stabbed her abusive partner.
The woman told the police that she had no intention of killing the father of her two children but she was simply trying to protect herself.
Investigations are ongoing.
