The Berbice Amateur Basketball Association 2017 Tournament for teams in Berbice, which is sponsored by Nigel Hinds Financial, continued last Sunday with a game between New Amsterdam Warriors and Hopetown Stealers at the Vryman’s Erven Basketball Court. NA Warriors had to claw back after trailing to eventually win the contest 57-54.
NA Warriors had a narrow first quarter lead 13-12, and fell behind to trail at half time 28-22. The third quarter saw them still behind the Stealers 43-40.
However, a fourth quarter explosion propelled NA Warriors to their final 57-54 win over Hopetown Stealers.
Qwesi Mickle poured in 22 points, while Edgar Semple supported with 14 points and R. Fogenay 12 points for the winners. For Hopetown Stealers, Elvis Thompson 14 and Kelon Webster 12 were the top shots.
Meanwhile, the rescheduled game between Ithaca Hardliners and Canje Knights will be played on Sunday 30th July at the Ithaca Court.
The competition is being played on a round robin basis in two zones. Zone A includes Canje Knight, Fyrish Black Shark and Ithaca Hardliners, while Zone B comprises of Rose Hall Town Jammers, Hopetown Stealers and N.A. Warriors.
Trophies, cash and other incentives are up for grabs. The tournament is being organized by Vibert Garrett.
