Investigators probing the murder of the 49-year-old security guard who was found with his throat slit on Robb Street, Georgetown on Thursday, have reportedly hit a dead end.
The body of Samuel Prowell called “Sammy” of 12 Mocha, East Bank Demerara, was found in front of the store he was securing, Hai Matadi Ishant Variety Store.
Kaieteur News understands that investigators visited the area where Prowell was killed on Thursday and revisited yesterday, but they were unable to obtain surveillance footage to show who would have killed the father of three.
“There is one camera facing the spot where the murder took place, but the owner of the store said that the camera was not on at the time of the murder,” a police source said yesterday.
He added that they are planning to revisit the scene to search for more security cameras. “There is another camera in close proximity, but that one is facing the opposite direction,” the rank revealed.
It is suspected that the victim might have been killed by a drug addict who he might have annoyed, as he (victim) had been chasing destitutes from the area since he began working at the store three months ago.
Prowell’s bicycle was missing from the scene and it is believed that his killer(s) might have escaped with it.
In a previous interview, Mark Samuels, Operations Manager of the private security firm with which the man was employed, said that Prowell was aggressive and got into several arguments with drug addicts and vagrants who would usually be in the area.
Samuels said that he tried talking to Prowell and advised that he be friendly with the people in the area, since it was deserted. “He would come over very aggressive and I talked to him many times about this. This murder has to be vendetta-driven.”
