Alleged chain snatcher unfit for trial – Government Psychiatrist

Alleged chain snatcher, Orseno Benn of Lot 527 Craig, East Bank Demerara was declared unfit to stand trial for the offence larceny from a person.
This is according to Government Psychiatrist, Dr Bhiro Harry, who examined the 21-year-old larceny accused more than 10 times over the past two years.
Dr. Harry told Magistrate Judy Latchman that he recommends Benn be placed on continuous psychiatric treatment for the rest of his life. The Psychiatrist also prepared a two-page report detailing the evaluation he conducted on Benn who had been on remand. The court has committed Benn to the mental institution.
Dr. Harry has been a medical practitioner for 25 years during which he has examined over 10,000 patients.
Benn has been before the courts since 2015, charged with snatching the gold chain valued at $60,000 from Zelta Benn.
According to the police report, on the day in question at Stabroek Market, Benn snatched the gold chain from the woman but was subsequently caught by a member of the City Constabulary who pursued him. It was also reported that Benn was found to be in possession of an unlicensed .32 revolver with a live round.
