A sailor was remanded to prison until August 8, after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and pleaded not guilty to a narcotics charge.
Jermaine Black, of Wakenaam, denied the allegation which stated that on May 19, at Water Front Port Kaituma, he had 1,814 grammes of marijuana in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that the marijuana was found in two boxes which were concealed inside of a locker belonging to the defendant.
According to prosecutor Moore, Black had the keys to the locker and told police that someone had given him the boxes. However, Attorney-at-Law Darren Wade argued that the narcotics were not found in his client’s possession and neither did his client have knowledge or custody of the drug.
The Chief Magistrate refused to grant bail citing that no special reasons were provided. The Chief Magistrate transferred the matter to the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
