The mystery of six-year-old Daniel Adolphus’s disappearance has baffled authorities for more than 17 months.
The little boy vanished while watching cartoons in his family’s Richmond Housing Scheme, Essequibo home on the night of December 2, 2015. He has not been seen or heard from since then.
His family and investigators have searched almost the entire village and neighbouring surroundings for him. They even dug up what seemed to be shallow graves in the village in search of a body but were never successful.
Now, where could a six-year-old boy go at 19:00hrs? This is the question investigators have been asking themselves over and over as they still hope to find him.
People go missing all the time and while these cases are always mysterious, it’s generally easy to guess what happened because there are always clues. Most of the times, a jilted lover is always at the centre.
But when a six-year-old child goes missing, leaving no clue behind—it’s devastating because no one knows where to look.
At the time of his disappearance, Daniel was at home alone with his father who was subsequently held for questioning, since in 2014 he was arrested for allegedly attempting to slash the little boy’s throat. The matter was dismissed after it was discovered that the man underwent a psychiatric evaluation which revealed that he was unfit to stand trial.
Kaieteur News understands that when the man was arrested, he claimed that he went to bed and left the child looking at cartoons.
However, residents in the area said at the time the man claimed his child was looking at the television; there was a power outage in the area, so the boy could not have been watching cartoons.
An aunt of the missing child, Pauline Benn, said that her brother, the child’s father, called her the day after his child vanished, asking if any of them had seen him.
The woman indicated that her sibling had attempted to injure the child after claiming that he was hearing voices—Daniel did not suffer any serious injuries.
During the time of the little boy’s disappearance, Benn said that he was using medication that would aid in preventing any mental lapses.
Little Daniel disappeared the day after his mother, Natasha Adolphus, traveled to the city with her infant daughter to take care of some urgent business. Her visit was supposed to be a short one.
Recalling what transpired, Benn said, “I asked (my brother) what really happened and he told me that he and Daniel were watching TV. He said he got up and went and drank his medication and then went to bed and he fell asleep and didn’t wake up till around midnight.”
Benn said that her sibling further indicated that when he got up, the door was ajar and he didn’t see his son.
Checks were made around the area but no one had seen the little boy.
It will soon be two years and there has not been any clue as to where the little boy might be.
Kaieteur News was informed that the child’s mother has since migrated and the last time his father spoke to relatives, he indicated that he was in the interior.
