A security guard and father of four was on Thursday remanded to prison after he appeared before Magistrate Alisha George in the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a murder charge.
Omar Khan, 40, of Lot 8 Better Hope Railway Line, was not required to plea to the charge which stated that on May 5, at Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, he murdered 18-year-old Azeez Khan also called Orlando.
The unrepresented man was seen crying while standing in the prisoner’s dock.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Alexander, told the court that the police file is incomplete as the investigation into the murder is still ongoing.
Magistrate George remanded Khan to prison, and he will make his next court appearance on June 28 for report.
According to information, eighteen-year-old Azeez Khan died last week Friday (May 5) at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), one day after being rushed to the institution in an unconscious state.
At that time, investigators were made to believe that the young man had fallen from a ladder and sustained injuries to the head after his father allegedly stated that.
However, a Post Mortem examination done on Azeez Khan’s remains indicated that he died from haemorrhage due to blunt trauma to the head. His injury was consistent with a hit rather than a fall.
According to information, ranks went to the neighbourhood where neighbours related that Khan did not fall, but was instead struck to the head with an object.
When the father was taken into police custody he reportedly admitted that he and his son were arguing and a fight subsequently started. It was during the fight that the accused struck the young man in the head with a piece of wood which resulted in him falling to the ground.
