Jamal Forde has been committed to stand trial at the High Court in Georgetown for the May 1, 2015 murder of Sophia businessman, Shawn Anys.
Forde of Plum Park, Sophia was told that he will face a judge and jury for the indictable offence after a preliminary inquiry into the murder concluded before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Courts.
The Magistrate ruled that based on the evidence led by the prosecution, a prima facie case had been made out against the murder accused.
Another man, Odel Roberts, 24, of ‘C’ Field Sophia has already been committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murder of Anys.
According to reports, Anys, who owned a small grocery shop, was confronted by armed bandits at his home. It was reported that the gunmen shot Anys while demanding cash and valuables from him. They reportedly made off with $40,000 in cash along with jewellery.
The 37-year-old businessman was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
