Sherwin Kingston, 43, of Lot 369 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme was placed on $140,000 bail after he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before City Magistrate Judy Latchman.
Kingston denied the allegation which stated that on March 22 at Princess Street Werk-en-Rust, he stole two bags of ginger valued $140,000 from Gordon Copeland.
According to Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves, on the day in question the virtual complainant hired the defendant to transport the ginger to his home.
The prosecutor stated that around 18:00hrs the defendant accompanied the virtual complainant to Kingston Wharf, from where he uplifted a quantity of ginger. The court was told that Copeland gave the defendant directions to his home.
The victim who was following in his vehicle stopped at a shop to make a purchase and the defendant proceeded to his home.
However, when Copeland arrived home he discovered that the gingers were missing. The matter was reported and the defendant was arrested.
The father of two will make his next court appearance on May 15.
