Local officials benefitted from an International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) course that will help to certify 60 technical officials ahead of the South American Junior Championships set for next month.
According to information reaching Kaieteur Sport, there will be two courses held with each part certifying 30 technical officials with the first already being completed.
The 60 prospective officials will write the theoretical exam on May 9 to know whether or not they have passed the examination.
In addition, while only 60 officials will be certified, 80 persons will be trained, but because the IAAF Technical Official, Giovanni Cardona can only certify 30 persons at a time, the other 20 will have to await official certification.
Both courses were held for a maximum of six days and are expected to significantly aid with the development of the level of officiating in the country, especially with the South American Junior Championship in June.
